Valentine’s Day weekend was last weekend and this can bring all different types of emotions to the table. If I am being honest, Valentine’s Day really isn’t my thing, but as I sit here and think, Valentine’s Day is about love. It celebrates the love of a spouse, a friend, family members, but most importantly it celebrates God’s love!
The only reason we can love in the first place is because God loved us first. In 1 John 4:19 it states, “We love because He first loved us.” As Christians, it is our greatest command to love God and love people.
I want to encourage you to love abundantly at all times. It doesn’t take a certain day to express your love to the people around you. I am so grateful that God gives us the ability to be His image bearers at all times. He gives us the ability to model His love and share it to all people. In 1 John 4:7 it states, “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.” You see, God calls you beloved. He calls you His own. You can love because the Father loves you.
Take some time to thank God for all the people He has blessed you with in your life. Also, don’t forget to remind yourself that you are loved. No matter what season you are walking through, you are never alone. In 1 Corinthians 13:4-6 it shows us this beauty of God’s love, “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
“Love never fails.”
Dear God, thank you for demonstrating love by first loving me. I’m thankful that you are patient, kind, and your love never fails. Amen.
Your Turn: How do you plan to NOT only go out this month to share love, but daily proclaim the love of God to all?
