See what great love the Father has lavished on us that we should be called the children of God! — 1 John 3:1 NIV
Sometimes I’m in the mood for a good love story. There are many kinds of love. There’s love between parents and children, siblings, best friends, and, of course, romantic love. We read about love in books and watch love stories on the big screen. Musicians write love songs, and some of the greatest works of literature are about love. There’s even a holiday dedicated to celebrating love.

Love is a beautiful gift from God. In Jeremiah 31:3b, He tells Jeremiah, “I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore, I have continued my faithfulness to you,” (ESV).
But the heart has other feelings. Hearts break, hearts weep, and hearts cry out for help. Hearts cling to the warm, fuzzy feelings of love, but they also hold on to profound loss, sadness, fear, and doubt. If we’re expecting our lives to look like the perfect Hallmark movie, the odds of that happening aren’t always in our favor.
Think about this — human love isn’t a continuous celebration. When we love someone, we let them into our hearts. This opens the door to all the wonderful feelings of love, but also lets in the unexpected sadness and disappointments that can come our way when we love others.

When God created the first man, He later created a woman as a companion for him. “Then the Lord said, ‘It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him’’ (Genesis 2:18, ESV). Adam and Eve became the first married couple living blissfully in the Garden of Eden. But eventually, their relationship was tested in horrific ways. They were tempted by Satan, evicted from the garden, and one of their sons took his brother’s life. Yet despite these tragedies, they still thrived and helped build the earth. Their love story should give us hope.
The wisdom of God shines in His decision to design His children to live in community with one another. Not only that, but He asks us to look outward, think deeply, and motivate each other toward love and action. Encouraging, challenging, and inspiring each other to live out our faith in tangible ways.
When we live this way, we press into God, hold tightly to hope, and build one another up. The story of Jesus coming to earth and all the details of his life is God’s love letter to His children. This is the greatest love story ever told: the love of Christ.

His love is greater than any love you’ve ever known. Run to Him with your whole heart, look closely, and you will see God’s fingerprints all over your life. Your heart is precious to Him.
Let’s begin and end each day giving thanks to God for His perfect love.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, what great love You have lavished on us, that we should be called Your children. Thank You for claiming us, choosing us, and holding us close with an everlasting love that never fades. Lord, You know our hearts. You see the places that are whole and the places that are wounded. You see the joy we carry and the disappointments we try to hide. When our hearts break, when we weep, when we wrestle with fear or doubt, remind us that Your love is steady and unshaken. When human love falls short, help us rest in the perfect love that never fails. Thank You for creating us for community—for family, friendship, and fellowship. Teach us to love others with grace and courage. Help us open our hearts, even knowing that love can make us vulnerable. Give us wisdom to encourage, challenge, and inspire one another toward deeper faith and genuine action. May our lives reflect Your kindness and truth. Jesus, thank You for coming to earth—God’s living love letter to us. Thank You for every step You took, every word You spoke, every sacrifice You made to draw us back to the Father. Help us press into You daily. Help us hold tightly to hope. Let us see Your fingerprints in the details of our lives, even in seasons that feel uncertain. Shape our hearts to trust You more. Teach us to begin and end each day with gratitude for Your perfect love. When we are tempted to believe we are alone, remind us that You are near. When we feel unworthy, remind us that we are precious in Your sight. May Your love steady us, strengthen us, and send us out to love boldly in Your name. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Your turn:
When you reflect on your life, where do you see evidence of God’s love for you? What feelings come to mind?
How can you share the love of Christ and encourage others today?

Thank you for sharing the complexity of love and inspiring us with hope even in the midst of trials. Praise God for his enduring love!
A great reminder of God’s love for us. Thank you!
Beautifully written. I am so thankful for our Father’s unconditional love!
