A Practical Guide to Restoring Peace

"You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you." — Isaiah 26:3 NIV

I can’t count how many times I’ve found myself on the edge of something meaningful—only to be met with a storm.

For me, this often happens before a major ministry moment, especially when I’m preparing to speak at an event or attend a writers conference. I know it’s where I’m supposed to be. I’ve prayed over it, prepared for it, and poured myself into it. But like clockwork, chaos seems to meet me at the door.

Navigating Life's Unexpected Challenges and Maintaining Focus

Suddenly, small (or not-so-small) arguments flare up at home, deadlines pile up with work, my body feels weary, and things around me begin to unravel. It’s as if the enemy is determined to shake my peace, distract my purpose, and derail my focus.

But over time, I’ve learned something important: peace doesn’t come by accident. It’s cultivated—intentionally.

Embracing Peace: A Daily Commitment to Serenity

Peace is a practice. A holy habit. A daily decision to realign my heart with the Prince of Peace when everything else screams for my attention.

What I Do When Peace Feels Out of Reach

  1. I pause and pray—even if it’s messy. Sometimes it’s a whispered “Help me, Lord” between packing my bags and reprinting my itinerary. God meets us in the whirlwind.

  2. I guard my atmosphere. I turn off the noise and put on worship music, a sermon, or sit in silence with my Bible open. Chaos can’t survive where His presence dwells.

  3. I remind myself: attacks don’t equal failure. Just because things feel out of control doesn’t mean I’m on the wrong path. In fact, it often confirms I’m on the right one.

  4. I breathe and surrender. Control is an illusion. Peace is found in trusting that God goes before me, walks beside me, and carries me when I can’t take another step.

Even in the Storm, I’ve Found Peace

No, things still don’t always go perfectly. My luggage has been lost, my flights have been delayed, and my computer and notes have been forgotten. But I've found the profound, soul-restoring truth that peace is not the absence of trouble—it’s the presence of God in the middle of it.

When I lean into that truth, I can hear God more clearly, follow His direction, and step fully into what He’s called me to do.

A Prayer for Peace
Heavenly Father, You are the God of all peace. In the chaos of preparation and the noise of life, still my anxious thoughts. Speak into the storm within me and around me. Help me to be anchored in You, to walk in trust, and to recognize Your presence even when everything feels out of place. Teach me how to restore peace—Your peace—in every moment. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Your Turn

1. What are your biggest peace-stealers right now?
2. Are you currently in a season of preparation for something important? What is God showing you in this time?
3. What small, practical step can you take today to invite God’s peace into your space?

What a great reminder of how easily we become distracted and allow our circumstances to overwhelm us. Life is often a balancing act, and we must choose what's most important, Jesus. Peace from God is available to us regardless of our situation.

I love your words, "Peace is a practice. A holy habit. A daily decision to realign my heart with the Prince of Peace when everything else screams for my attention."
