Can you believe someone created Facebook in 2004? It started as a social media website created by Mark Zuckerberg to connect Harvard students.
Now, the rest is history.
Facebook currently has 2.895 billion monthly active users, and in 2020, its revenue amounted to 85.97 billion USD.
The main feature of Facebook is the News Feed. The news feed displays stories and posts from your friends and family. The more you interact with someone, the more likely you are to see their posts.
Essentially, the News Feed will “feed” you information based on your likes and preferences.
These facts make me look at my life and examine what I am mentally feeding myself. What is it that fills me? Whatever you are full of is a result of what you have been provided.
When I feed myself things of the world, I am full of comparisons, fear, insecurities, bitterness, unforgiveness, lust, anger, and even regret.
The most extensive reality check for me is my weekly screen time report. For those of you who are unfamiliar, iPhone users have a screen time setting that tracks how much time is spent on your phone based on app usage.
There are times where I have spent 7+ hours per day on my phone, scrolling through social media, making physical, lifestyle, and financial comparisons to others who appear to have it all together.
However, when I feed on the word of God, I am full of love, peace, joy, patience, strength, forgiveness, and self-control.
It’s not to say I did not experience fear or insecurities even when I feed on the word of God, but what I am full of certainty shifts.
Significant time with God is the perfect antidote for a negative news feed.
What is it that fills you?
Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for your word and your teachings. I pray that you give me the desire to shift what I feed on. All that I need is found in you. Amen.
Your turn: In what ways can you relate to this post? What fills you? Do you have any insight you can share with us about being filled with the “right” things?
